Specifications of Power Dividers

Power dividers also called power splitters are RF microwave passive devices that equally split the power of an input signal into two or more output signals.

Power dividers also called power splitters are RF microwave passive devices that equally split the power of an input signal into two or more output signals. They can also be used as power combiners, multiple input signals are combined into a single output. There are many types of power dividers, such as Resistive, Reactive, Hybrid, Wilkinson Power Dividers, etc.

Power dividers are fundamental components in RF and microwave circuit design. They and directional couplers are passive devices widely used in radio technology. In addition, a power divider has a single designated input port and more than one output port. All output ports are isolated from one another. Meanwhile, the output signals are usually of equal amplitude and phase. RF power dividers are widely used in communication, aerospace, defense, wireless, radars, antennas, phased array systems, etc.

Corech is a leading power divider supplier & manufacturer in China. We offer a selection of 2 Way, 3 Way, 4 Way, 5 Way, 6 Way, 8 Way, 10 Way, 12 Way, or 16-way port designs. Our power divider can be matched to 1.85mm, 2.4mm, 2.92mm, BNC, N, or SMA connector types. Frequency ratings range from DC to 67 GHz. Meanwhile, our power divider provides minimal insertion loss with exceptional phase and amplitude balance. In addition, Corech is devoted to custom designs. Our engineers will tailor products to meet your specific needs. We can also print your logo or company information on the power divider. Over the years, our products have covered the USA, the UK, France, Italy, Sweden, Spain, Russia, South Africa, etc.

Configuration
This is the number of ways the input signal is split by the power divider such as 2 Way, 3 Way, 4 Way, 5 Way, 8 Way, 10 Way, 12 Way, or 16 Way.

Power (W)
This is the average input power that the power divider can handle.

Insertion Loss (dB)
Signal lost when converting one signal into multiple signals. It is measured in dB. Lower insertion loss values are desirable for maintaining signal integrity.

Isolation (dB)
The degree of isolation between output ports. It is represented in dB. The higher the isolation, the better.

Impedance
Power Dividers are usually available in 50 Ohm and 75 Ohm configurations.

Amplitude Balance
The degree of difference in RF signal output power at each output port of the power divider. So the difference amplitude between the output ports should be minimal.

Phase Balance
Phase balance refers to the consistency of the phase difference between the various output ports.

VSWR
The voltage standing wave ratio between the input and output ports. The smaller the standing wave ratio, the better the matching performance of the power divider.

Types of Power Dividers
There are many different types of power dividers with various use cases and signal separation methods.

Resistive Power Dividers

Resistive Power Dividers use resistors to divide power. In addition, the resistive type is symmetrical, has the greatest bandwidth, and allows the desired system impedance (typically 50 Ω). However, since they dissipate much of the input power as heat, they have comparatively high insertion loss. They’re not the most efficient, high-power versions are not practical.

Reactive Power Dividers

Reactive Power Dividers leverage capacitors and inductors to divide power. They are asymmetrical. In addition, they feature low insertion loss and provide about 20 dB of port isolation. So, they’re a high-frequency option. However, they don’t include resistors that can burn up, reactive power dividers operate over a narrow frequency band.

Hybrid or Wilkinson Power Dividers

Hybrid or Wilkinson Power Dividers rely on quarter-wave transmission lines and resistors. These are adept at balancing power division, isolation, efficiency, and bandwidth.
